In an HCL offload operation, safety and measurement go hand in hand. The customer required an automatic offload system for HCL to support worker safety, and measurement was critical to the success of the offload process.

The project faced a major constraint: long lead time for an exotic-metals Coriolis meter, creating schedule risk for an operation where timing matters. The urgency was amplified by operational reality. The customer needed HCL for processing and only had an on-site three-day supply, which delays could quickly impact continuity of operations.

Flexim solution providing non-intrusive flow measurement

Short-term: Offload Operations

A solution was needed that could support the offload operation in the near term, without compromising the longer-term measurement plan.
To meet the immediate need, a Flexim Piox meter was selected to provide non-intrusive flow measurement as a short-term solution.
This approach enabled the customer to move forward without waiting for the exotic-metals Coriolis meter lead time, while still maintaining the critical measurement required for offloading.

Long-term: backup solution

Importantly, the Flexim Piox solution also supported the long-term strategy. Once the Coriolis meter is eventually installed, the Flexim will remain in place as a critical backup, strengthening reliability for the offload operation.
The Flexim Piox could also be used to check HCL concentrations, adding further measurement capability aligned with the application's needs.
